What I can help with

I design, review and implement cryptographic systems, and help engineering teams movelegacy software forward without stopping the business. Alongside that I train and coach, and speak about sustainable IT among other subjects. Here's what each of those looks like in practice.

Cryptography: design, review and implementation

I design, review and implement cryptographic systems: digital signature platforms, encryption systems, privacy, PKI, key management, and protocols around them such as OAuth2, OpenID, eIDAS and others. I've owned this kind of work end to end, from technical strategy to hands-on development, on Worldline's cryptographic signature platform and on Zetes' digital signature and digital wallet applications.

Whether you need a second pair of eyes on an existing design, an implementation done right the first time, or someone who can own the topic long-term, this is where I spend most of my time.

Legacy modernization: tech lead, architect or developer

Legacy systems keep the business running, which is exactly why they're hard to change. I work as atech lead, architect or software developer on modernization efforts that have to keep delivering while they evolve: migrating an application or integration layer without downtime, untangling a monolith, or leading a rewrites when absolutely necessary.

Recent examples include leading development on a multi-year modernization of SPW Finances' legacy applications, and migrating Carrefour's legacy integration layer from Tibco to Spring Boot and Apache Camel. More on the projects page.

Training and coaching

For teams, I run trainings through Axoly Tech on cryptography, legacy modernization, sustainable IT and other topics.

For individuals, I coach IT freelancers in Belgium who are starting out or want to grow their practice — from finding clients to setting rates and structuring the business side.

Talks

I speak about sustainable IT, cryptography, legacy modernization and other subjects at conferences, meetups and internal team events. Past talks are listed on the events page. Reach out if you'd like me to speak at yours.
